Cross Country
On Friday it was Cross Country day.
At the start I felt nervous. The 7 year old's lined up.
“Ready, Go!” said Mrs Harris.
I started running. I got faster and faster then I started sprinting. Near the soccer goal I past Samuel and then I past Jamie. Then I caught up to Hunter and nearly past him but then he sprinted off, so I sprinted after him.
I got into the orchard and passed him.
Then I got onto the middles court. My brother Josh and his friends were cheering for me. They were on the wood table and I went right beside the table. I felt
embarrassed, I nearly fell over because I was going so fast. Then I got to Room O and they were cheering for everyone.
Then I got to the junior field and Hunter nearly past me but I sprinted off.
When I got onto the bark I started sprinting and I nearly fell over again.
Then I finally got near the finish line.
My mum and aunty were saying, ”Go Jayden!”
Then I past the finish line. I came fifth and I felt glad.
That was my Cross Country.

Cross Country
On Friday the 31st of October our class ran the Cross Country. I felt determined.
“Ready, set, go!” called Mrs Harris.
I sprinted over the starting line. I ran straight for the soccer goal. I was fighting the wind.
Finally I got to the soccer goal and ran around it. I ran past five people through the rugby goal. I
ran into the orchard and down the path. When I got out of the orchard I saw people cheering and cheering. There was no time to chat.
Over the crossing I ran. I was nearly finished. Over the grass, under the wobbly bridge, over the log, past the slide. I sprinted to the finish line.
I had come 8th and I couldn’t believe it. I ran to my mum and dad and they took me home and that was the end of the Cross Country.

Cross Country Race
On Friday me and the Junior School had a race at Manchester Street School.
At the start I had to get ready, Jack did my laces up.
Then I had to line up.
When I had to go to the starting line
Mrs Harris said, ”Ready, Go!”
I zoomed off.
When I had to go around the teacher I slowed down. I got to the beam I jumped over it. On the concrete there was a person in front of me. I sped up and bet him, I felt happy.

My Bush Walk
In the holidays my family went on a bush walk, I felt cheerful. We walked down the rocky path and through the huge green trees. If you were quiet you could hear a buzz sound from the big yellow and black bees.
I walked and walked till I came to a brown wooden bench. I felt puffed so I sat on it and waited for the others to come. I thought I might have been lost in the deep dark forest. I would have been really scared if I was lost.
Soon the others came and we kept on walking. The stick I was walking with scratched me in the face. It started to bleed but I didn't give up, I just kept on walking down the rocky path happily. I walked over to the side of the rocky path and I saw a rabbit.
“A fat grey rabbit,” I called out.
“Where?” said Mum.
“Down there,” I said.
“Oh, now I see it,” said Mum happily.
Then we kept on walking.

Alice

At the Pool
In the holidays my family went to the pool. There were
hundreds of people there. I just couldn't believe it. I was just about to explode
because I could have got lost. Luckily I held onto my dad when we went to the deep part.
Next we went in the River Ride. I could go in it by myself. I was proud of myself for doing it on my own.
At the start I screamed. Then my brother laughed, I thought it was funny too, even my dad laughed. We were all laughing.
In the middle of the River Ride it got deeper and deeper, so I had to bounce up and down like a rabbit.
After that we went home and had dinner and then went to bed.

Going to the Movies
In the holidays my family went to Palmerston North because we were going to the movies. I felt excited that we were going to the movies. When we got there it was pouring down.
First we went to the Warehouse to get some new shoes for me but they didn't have any. Next we went to K-Mart, they didn't have any black shoes but they had some blue shoes so we bought them.
Then we went to get lunch. We had McDonald's, I had L&P for my drink also I had a Big Mac and some chips, it was delicious.
Then we went to the movies. It was called
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We were in cinema 2. We found a seat and then the movie started.
I felt excited.

The Knight’s Fight
In a tall brick castle lived the bravest knights in the kingdom. Their armor was shiny and silver.
One day a red vicious dragon came to the castle because he knew that they had gold.
But the army fought the dragon with bows and arrows and swords.
The knights with arrows fired the arrows at the dragon but he moved and they missed him. The dragon fired back with his fire, he was trying to knock down the wall. He was using his tail and fire to knock down the wall.
Suddenly…
Bang, crash!
Bricks fell from the wall and they nearly hit the dragon. The dragon dodged the bricks and ran through the wall.
It wasn't long until the knights charged after him. There were 50 knights after him. The dragon was trying to find the gold but he couldn't find it.
Then the dragon saw something shining in a chest. He whispered to himself, “ There might be traps.”
He walked slowly.
Suddenly…
Pop! A Jack-in-the-box popped out.
“Ahhhhh!” screamed the dragon and he ran away.
Then the knights saw him and they ran after him. They shot their bows and arrows, only one of them got the dragon on the tail but it did not hurt him.
They kept on shooting but they missed again so they threw their swords at the dragon.
They hit the dragons leg and he said, “ Ouch!”
Then he turned around and fired fire at the knights but the knights held their shields up. The fire went back at the dragon and it hit him and the dragon slowly died.
The master of the castle said, “ Thanks.”

Here are some stories the students wrote today.

Friends Over

On Sunday my friends came over to my house. They were Lily, Bella, Uncle Mike and Aunty Trish.
Bella had some chewing gum. Nathan and I had some of it.
After that we played cops and robbers. I was a cop and Bella was a robber. Nathan and Lily did not play cops and robbers.
After we played cops and robbers we went inside for afternoon tea, we felt hungry.
Next we played on the tramp. The tramp was as black as the ash from the fire.
We all felt happy.

Snakes

Once there was a big forest. The leaves on the trees were very green. All the snakes loved it up there in the tree tops.
One day one of the snakes was high up in a tree. The sun went on some wood and then a fire appeared.
The snake quickly went down the tree and onto the ground and slithered off.
The fire got bigger and bigger. All the snakes went down the trees.
In awhile the fire stopped and the whole place was burnt. The snakes waited until the leaves grew again.

Monster Truck

Glug, glug a monster truck had run out of petrol. The monster truck was stuck because there were two hills. One in front of him and one behind.
So the driver got out of the monster truck and ran over to get a crane.
The crane lifted the monster truck off the ground. The crane took the monster truck to the petrol
station. Then he filled up with petrol and got back on the track but he was last.
So he put on his rocket booster and took off. He bet all the other monster trucks. When he was at the
finish line he flipped and broke his bonnet.

Food Chain Story
Once there was a white, little bunny he was hopping along a patch of light green grass.  He stopped to nibble on some of the grass.
Then an orange sneaky fox crept along the grass slowly. Then he pounced on the bunny and gobbled him up. He choked and choked and died.
Next a snake slithered along the short grass and ate the fox.
“Yum, yum,” said the snake.
Then an eagle came swooping down and gobbled up the snake. He then flew back to his nest.

Don’t Touch That!
“Don’t touch that!” cried dad to pretty Elizabeth Harper, ”its too hot.”
“Why?” said Elizabeth.
“Because you’ll burn yourself,” said dad.
But it was too late she burnt herself on the fire.
“Ow!” she cried.
“Run it under cold water,” said dad.
So off Elizabeth went to run it under cold water.
“Are you okay?” asked dad.
“No,” said Elizabeth.
“That’s why I told you not to,” said dad.
“But orange is my favourite colour, I had to,” said Elizabeth.
“No you didn't,” said dad.
“I feel sad now,” said Elizabeth.

Saving the Turtle and Dolphin
Glug, glug, glug.
“What was that?” asked the man in the boat.
“What, the boat is leaking,” he said.
So he dived in the sea and tried to fix it but he couldn’t so he plugged it with a stone.
“Oh,dear there is oil and a dolphin and a turtle stuck in a net,” he cried.
So he dived down and saved them just in time.
“Phew!” he said.
He also got ten fish out of the net too. Then he swam home.
“Mmmmm, fish and chips for dinner.”

Animal Poems

This might be a good idea for a story.
Watch it.
What animals would you choose and I wonder what they would do?

Today we talked about starting our stories in an exciting way so we capture the readers attention. Check out these fantastic stories.

Tiger Attack

“Grrrrr!” said the black and orange tiger.
I yelled, “ahhhhh!”
I yelled it so loud that everyone in the forest heard it but no one came to save me.
I said, ”stop it.” but he carried on.
I said, “stop it, please!”
When I said that the black and orange tiger did stop, just in time.

The Big Black Snake
Once there was a big black snake who lived in a big tree with lots of branches and leaves.
Sometimes she went to get a drink from the
water under her tree.
One day it was very hot, just how she liked it. She went to get a big drink.
Then she heard people looking for a big black snake, that was her!
She knew she was poisonous with her fangs. She just had to poison them so she hid under the sand so she could get them.
She bit three at once then there was one left and she got him on the leg.
The big black snake was happy that they would never come back.

Wow! I'm so impressed with the writing this week. Here are some of the students stories.
Our focus over the next couple of weeks will be editing or fixing up  stories by adding punctuation and extra words to make our stories interesting.

Once there was a little orange fox who lived in a dirty den. He went hunting for some chickens. He was creeping in the green grass. The grass was so long that the chickens couldn't see the sneaky fox. There was a white chicken, she was sitting on her eggs. The fox was so close to the chicken, he was three steps before going for the kill. He stepped one step closer then…
pounced and dug his claws into the chicken.
The chicken flapped it’s wings and made a loud noise. The fox killed the chicken and took it back to his den.

Here is the boat Samuel made.
Yesterday I made a small boat out of Lego. It was very tricky because it was hard to find the pieces that I needed. My brother made one too.  His was not like mine, his boat had wheels and mine didn't. I think mine is the best boat because wheels look dumb on boats.
Samuel

One day I was driving a Red Bull. If you don't know what a Red Bull is, it’s a racing car.
I was versing a golden car. The guy in the
tower said,” all cars to the starting line. 1,2,3 GO!”
I zoomed off and I was coming second.
It was a two person race so I was coming last.
Then we came to the first obstacle it was a
humongous ramp, it was 100 metres tall. I was the first one to the ramp, I felt scared.
Plop
I  landed and zoomed off and won the finals.
I got the cup and I felt happy.

In class we have been looking at the two sounds the vowels make, this clip may help you remember those sounds.

Once upon a time there was a princess. She was at the beach because she lived at the beach.
One day she heard a little voice.
She said, “Where ever is that noise coming from?”
Then she heard it again. She noticed where it was coming from. It was coming from a clam shell. The girl opened the shell and found a little orange fairy. The fairy flew up into the sky. She thanked the princess thousands of times.
“It’s a pleasure,” said the princess.
“You are my hero,” said the fairy.
“I’m just doing my job,” said the princess.
Taylor

Wow, Taylor what great ideas and use of language.

On Sunday my family and I went on Mr Browns farm. We got some firewood. It was our last day of getting wood there. When my family got all the wood the sheep came over to us, it was kind of weird. I didn’t mind it at all. We gave the Brown’s some chocolates. Then we got in the car and drove back safely.

One day I saw a forest, the sun was
shining on it. It was a huge forest. I was brave enough to go in. I went too far out. I could not find my way out of the forest.
I was starving for food but I used my brain. I made a trap to get some food. I caught a bear. I made a knife, a sharp one. I made it so I could kill the bear.
Then I cooked it. I had it for dinner and breakfast and lunch, it was yummy.
When I ate it all up I made another trap to catch some more animals.

On Saturday night my family went to Stock cars in Palmerston North. It was in a big stadium and it was awesome. Me and my sister went on the Ferris wheel, that was fun. After that we went to watch the stock cars. One of them crashed and hit the side.
We got two bags of doughnuts, they were delicious. There were nine doughnuts.
We watched the sidecars. One of the sidecars crashed. Two got disqualified because they went too soon. A pink one got disqualified and a white one got disqualified too. They had to pull their motorbikes backwards.
We had to leave early because we had had a busy day. It was fun and we will go again.
Dylan

Alliteration
We are learning about alliteration. This story is a good example of it.
We will be creating our own alliteration book about animals.
Look out for it on this page in the next couple of weeks.

Heidi wrote a Woo Hoo story in class today. She shared it with the class and we liked the humor in her story so she went to share it with Mrs Mackie.
Shopping with Mum
In the weekend I went to the Warehouse. I got a cat that was ginger coloured, then I got a cage for it.
I asked mum, “ mum can I have this ginger cat?”
Mum said, “yes, you can get it.”
“Thank you mum,” I said.
When we went back home I showed my dad, he was so surprised.
He thought that we got a pet from a pet shop.
I said, ”it’s just a toy.”
“Oh well that makes sense,” said dad.
Then we watched my favourite movie it’s called “Here Comes Peter Cottontail.”
It was the best day of my life!
Heidi

Ella wrote this fantastic story this week. I was so impressed that I sent her to share it with Mrs Mackie.
Her story has personal voice, describing words and feelings.

In the weekend me and Gracie and dad found a fantastic climbing tree, it was tall and brown. We made a hut in it. My dad used to be a builder so he is really good at building. He built the hut. It is big in the hut. He made a deck and the hut has two stories. It is really cool. He finished it last night. We can fit my whole family in the hut. These are the people in my family Fynn, Dad, Mum, Gracie and me. I love dad!

Check out some of our holiday stories.

Having Fun with Dad
In the holidays I went to my Dad’s house. We went to the esplanade and I jumped on the tramp. I jumped high. Then I went on the
flying fox. It was fast and high. I got a chocolate ice cream. It was
yummy, very yummy.
Alyssa

Easter Egg Hunt
In the holidays my brother Harry and I went on an Easter egg hunt at Grandma’s house. I got the most but I shared with my brother. Grandma said we had to save them for later, they were delicious. She said we could have some for desert. The next day Grandma took us to Muffin Break, I got a biscuit.
Heidi

Duck Shooting with Poppa
On Saturday I went to Nana and
Poppa’s house. We went to duck
shooting. When we went there we saw a little tiny pussy cat. We caught him and called him Lucky because he was lucky to be alive. Then we had to stay behind Poppa while he shot a duck. Then I had to pick the dead duck up by the neck. We thought he shot the duck in the heart because he was dripping with blood.
Jack

Last term we were learning how to write longer sentences. We had to follow some questions.
The questions were...
Who?
Is doing what?
When?
Where?
Why?
Then we had to put all this information in one sentence. Here are some examples of us stretching a sentence.

I've posted a student sharing their journal story today.
Took this on my phone to see if the quality of the picture would be better.
Sorry to say, it isn't!

Thanks to those parents who help their children fill out the weekend plan. As you can see from the photo's we use them for Oral Language (buddy sharing), then in the writing session. Both Alex and Alice said it was heaps easier to write when they had the plan in front of them.

I will be putting up some of the students published writing.
