Numeracy

Today we focused on Patterns.
We talked about and wrote down number patterns. For example, skip counting in 1's, 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's.
Then we looked at colour patterns and animal patterns. We got into groups and created a pattern, the person next to us had to finish it. We had lots of fun doing this, here are some pictures.

At home: Try and spot patterns around the house and outside.

Today we have been exploring grouping shapes.
We were able to group them into colours and shapes.
Other ideas the students had were to group them depending on how many sides and corners they had.
They also found some of the shapes were thin and others were thick.

How have these shapes been grouped?

How have they grouped these shapes?
Here are some pictures we created with shapes.

Alice has got 5 enclosures in each enclosure she has 5 bears how many bears altogether?
5 groups of 5 =

Dylan has 4 enclosures and in each enclosure there are 2 bears. How many bears altogether?
4 groups of 2 =

Abbie has 4 enclosures and in each enclosure there are 10 animals. How many animals altogether?
4 groups of 10 =

Samuel has 6 enclosures and in each one there are 5 animals. How many animals altogether?
6 groups of 5 =

We have been learning to count groups of by skip counting.

The other day we were looking at greater than and less than. Have a look at this game, you could play it at home with a pack of cards. You could draw two crocodiles one facing left and the other facing right. Give it a go!

Look at this video to help you understand Place Value.
On a piece of paper you could draw the house's and then ask someone to give you a number and you have to put the digits in the correct house.

100 Chart

This may help with learning shapes.

Listen and look at this song. When it's finished draw a picture using the different shapes. See if people can spot the shapes and name them in your picture?

Check out this video then get your parents to give you some equations to practise.

We are practising counting in 5's for the next couple of weeks.
I hope this will help.

Facts to ten are very important.
Try to remember these number pairs that equal 10.

This morning we broke into groups and and Mrs Geary gave use some animals. We then had to group them in two's then skip count in two's to find out how many we had.

We have been skip counting in 2's for the last couple of weeks. This video may help with your practise. When you get really good try counting backwards in 2's from 20.

Ice block Sticks
Our focus was on teen numbers.
I made some numbers using the ice block sticks then the students had to make the numbers.
I asked them how many bundle of ten, how many ones, then how many ones altogether.
We then looked at numbers that come before and after.

Number Fans and Arrow Cards
We were making numbers up to 1000. We wrote the number down, made it with the number fans then arrow cards. We were learning how many 100's, 10's and 1's and how many ones altogether.

Today we were making teen numbers using ice block sticks.
Teen means 10
What are these teen numbers?

We are learning to use a number lines to answer equations up to 20.

We are learning about teen numbers.
All teen numbers have one group of ten in the number.
Look at the tens frames, what teen number is it showing.
Teen Numbers

Just a little clip to help learn the difference between am and pm

We have been busy learning numbers. Here are some activities we did today.

For our final assessment we sorted, counted and displayed the colours of smarties in a packet. We then had to write down what we found out.

We found that most children in our class have 5 to 6 letters in their names, there were 9 children in each.
The least numbers of letters in names were 3 and 7 letters.
The last couple of weeks we have been focusing on statistics. These are some graphs groups of students put together.
