Get set Go: Throwing over arm

What a beautiful day to get outside and do some exercise.
We did some running and warm up games, then we talked about how to do an over arm throw.
Some of the things we discussed were...
Aiming hand needs to point in the direction you want the ball to go.
Legs need to be apart with the leg on the same side as your pointing arm also pointing out straight..
Your body needs to lean back.
Then...1,2,3,fire!
You need to release the ball as it passes over your head.
Your aim arm needs to end up behind you,
Check out this picture and the others in the Picture folder and see if the students are doing it correctly.
As you can see I was in the line of fire, the things you do to get a good shot!

Buddy Time

Today we shared our published folders with Room I, they shared some of their stories too. We were celebrating learning success in the writing we do. Then Room I students taught us how to sign our names which was really cool. See if you child can remember and show you. We will be doing an activity next week to reinforce what they have learnt.

Learning to sign our name,

Winter Evening Water Colour Art

This week we did some water colour paintings. Mrs Geary brought some special water colour paper, it's really thick. Then we had to paint a winter background. We discussed the colours we would need, these are cool colours like blue, purple, and grey. Next we added a bit of yellow and red as though the sun was setting.
The next day we used ink to made a deciduous tree. We used a straw to blow the ink up the paper to make a trunk then changed direction to create branches. The students looked for puddles of ink and then blew and chased the lines. We had to think about the direction the straw was pointing and how strong to blow.
More pictures can be found in the Picture folder.

Blob Creatures

Wow look at our completed art!
We were learning about primary and secondary colours and learning their Maori names.
Instructions
First we had to blob paint on one side of a piece of paper.
Then we folded the paper over and printed the paint on the other side.
We then let the paint dry,
Next we traced around the shapes with sharpies.
We then looked carefully and decided where the eyes and mouth would be and added those.
To finish we added patterns. If we did a pattern on one side we had to copy it on the other.
Check out our picture folder for more examples.

Friends

Today I was on duty so decided I would walk around and see if students in Room G were following the red part of the rainbow. It was great to see students having fun and playing games together. Here are some students I found.

Our Enviro Job

Today we did our part to keep Manchester Street School beautiful, following the green part of the rainbow.
Our enviro job is to pick up rubbish on the top field.
We were using our eagle eyes to spot rubbish and at times had to crawl under bushes to pick it up.

What a beautiful Autumn afternoon to play a game of two ball soccer with Room I. Wow, great too see so many students getting in there and having a go. Students that had some real skills were Jack, Alyssa, Kaden, Alex, Warwick, Jayden N and Ella. Te Ata was brave as goalie.
I'll put some more pictures up in the Picture Folder.

Leaf Prints

Today we were busy creating Leaf Monoprints.
The students had to find interesting autumn leaves and bring them to school.
They then had to follow a process of rolling on paints onto tinfoil , placing leaves down and carefully placing a piece of paper on top and pressing gently across the paper like patting a cat.
The students created two artworks
1. First print
2. Ghost print
I have put the 1 prints up on the wall, come in and have a look.
You can see more photo's in the picture folder.

Get Set Go-Catching

Today Room G were enthusiastic learners and were keen to participate in the Get Set Go programme. We were focusing on catching again. I could see improvement in throwing and catching of a big ball.
Homework this week is to throw a ball up and see how many claps you can do before you have to catch it, tricky!
If you don't have a big ball roll up your socks and throw those.
Remember the more you practise the better you will get.
To see more photo's look in the Photo Folder.

A Jack Frost Poem 【Sarah's Dramatic Reading】

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. The students were keen to get back and continue the great learning they did last term.
I note was sent out today with a reminder about the basic facts maths cards and collecting Autumn leaves.
I am hoping to do some leaf prints later in the week.
We are beginning to look at time this term. You could talk to your child about what they do during the day and when they do it. Encourage them to tell the time first looking at o'clock then half past. We will be looking at quarter past and quarter to. I will be putting up a Youtube video to watch and then practise.
